Employment with TechnoDane
TechnoDane is based around a core of owning partners. But we always need skilled technicians, developers, and trainers. We prefer to work with you as an IRS 1099 contractor. But we are not like other contracting houses!
The painful part
Let's get the pain out of the way first. We will vet you. We will interview you thoroughly. We will give you tests to verify your knowledge. We will ask for references and we will check them. If you are personally known to someone already known to us, that will help you out. But here's what we won't do: We won't pull a credit report. We think that is just snooping in people's private business. We won't ask for any bodily fluids. We will investiagte matters relevant to verifying your skills and experience. If you don't work out for any other reason, we won't ask you to do any work for us again. It is that simple.
Doing well by doing good
Our first value at TechnoDane is openness. We are planning to profit from your work. That means we owe you something. We owe it to you to tell you what we are taking from what you get. We owe it to you to tell you what we do for you. In line with that value, consider the rest of this when you think about working for us.
Everybody gets the same deal
With TechnoDane, there is no guessing about whether you are treated fairly. You get 75% of our bill rate. It doesn't matter if you are blowing the dust out of PC cases or designing a fuzzy logic scheduling algorithm. You get 75% of our bill rate.
We'll help you pay your taxes
If you would like, we will hold back 30% of your pay and pay it out quarterly or annually to help you pay your taxes. Just to be up-front, we don't pay interest on that money, so if you have the self-discipline to defer your own taxes you may certainly do so. Both of the founders were sole proprietors and they remember how hard it was to save those taxes. If this would help you, we are set up for it.
You control when you get paid
We don't ask that you invoice us to get your money, nor do you need to wait for it. You can log in to your account on our web site and request a check to be cut for any unpaid work on our books at any time. That means you can request a check the day you do the work, or you can accumulate hours for weeks or months and have a check cut just to make that special purchase. It is up to you.
We want to reward (and exploit) your creatvity
We want your ideas. We are an open-source company. That means that software you develop for us (although not necessarily for clients) will be released under the current version of the GPL. Each year, we offer two "TechnoBel" prizes for the best new feature of our online service, one voted by the partners, one by everyone who worked for us in the last year. We want TechnoDane to be a place you want to work at!
We offer experience and recommendations
We are very interested in working with IT professionals who are looking for extra work at great rates, and with students or retired or laid-off professionals who want to earn a good rate and want some current work experience. We want to help you reach your goals. If that is a job with someone else, well, if you've done good work for us, we'd be happy to help you in any way we can. We're all in this together.
We're green, and not just proud: We're smug about it!
Certainly not everyone cares about this, but our founders do. We are a carbon-neutral company. We will purchase offsets for every vehicle we or our contractors use. That means that the extra miles you will be driving to work for us will not contribute to climate change.
As we grow
Our employment model is based on our size and market space. We don't want to hire people and lay them off. We do hope to grow the business such that we can grow our core staff and have a balance between salaried and contract staff.
