Legacy applications
TechnoDane staff have contributed to a number of open source projects. The most important for our software practice so far has been jSyncManager which is a Java-based open source sync software server for PalmOS. We contributed code to support writing conduits for the SatelliteForms RAD development tool. We have an introductory document available, and we have Javadoc documentation of the jSyncManager including the SatelliteForms package we contributed. Note: This javadoc is maintained by TechnoDane and is not official outside of the org.jSyncManager.API.Conduit.SatellitForms package. We will always make sure that package is up-to-date.
We have used this combination of software to develop custom handheld applications for a number of businesses. These applications sync via the internet and we have implemented both dial-up and PalmOS smartphone applications.
The Direction of Handhelds
PalmOS has been an industry workhorse for many years, but there is little doubt that the classic PalmOS application and conduit-based sync is on the way out. The new Palm Pre doesn't do hotsync. It uses newer methods of data exchange.
iPhone
TechnoDane is moving into iPhone development. We will be releasing a general purpose iPhone app in Q3 and we plan to release a vertical market application in Q1 2010.
Android
The Google Android platform appears to be very exciting. TechnoDane has no immediate plans for the platform, but our R&D staff are looking at it with interest.
